We speak to Syrian cinematographer and filmmaker, Ayman Alhussein. In the episode, we hear about his early life growing up in Syria and taking part in the revolution in 2011 before making the impossible decision to leave - first to Turkey before finally coming to the UK. We talk about the making of AYMAN and his more recent film Matar, and the importance of lived experience in filmmaking.

Ayman Alhussein is a self-taught Syrian cinematographer and filmmaker. He discovered his passion while filming his journey to the UK, which led to his involvement in the documentary AYMAN telling his own story by Deadbeat Films. Ayman has since shot films for NGOs including Choose Love and UNHCR, as well as creative projects for the NHS and artists like Anne Marie. He also works as an authenticity consultant on films, including The Swimmers and Jungle. His latest project is the short film Matar, which he shot and co-wrote.
